The label also features artists such as The Hilliard Ensemble, Elin Manahan Thomas and Sarah Connolly as well as a ‘Live’ series and young artists focus. It has recently launched the Acoustic World series of discs which epitomize CORO’s values of excellence of performance, authentic instruments, brilliance of sound and world class musicians. Recordings of The Sixteen are also available on other major labels including UCJVirgin Classics, Chandos, Hyperion and Linn. Every year The Sixteen and Coro make new recordings, prompting such accolades as:

Coronation Anthems (COR16066)

Gramophone

Editor’s Choice

April 2009

“these fresh, spontaneous and vivacious performances are revelatory. Not only is the choral singing wonderfully clear, perfectly enunciated, beautifully phrased and impeccably tuned, but also the orchestral playing – an aspect too often relegated to auto-pilot in this repertoire – is brilliantly alert, bold and lyrical. Overall, this disc ranks as The Sixteen’s most exciting achievement in its impressive Handel discography.”

Guerrero: Missa de la batalla escoutez (COR16067)

The Times

March 2009

“Missa de la batalla escoutez is one of the finest of these works…sophisticated and serene, with a stunningly beautiful eight-voice final Agnus Dei. The Sixteen luxuriate in his texture and phrase. Other works by Guerrero further underline the illustriousness of a man who was one of the Renaissance’s finest.”

Handel: Messiah (COR16062)

BBC Music Magazine

October 2008

“Three of the four outstanding soloists - fine Handelians all - cut their teeth in the choir...this is an ‘ensemble’ Messiah with everything (including the superb instrumental playing and imaginatively realised continuo) directed towards the unfolding of an involving theological narrative…”
